Matanuska Glacier Hike

The last 10 days my dad was here and luckily the weather was pretty good most of the time. His first weekend here we went down to Whittier for another Glacier cruise and even though I have been on one of the cruises already before it was completely different now that most of the snow has melted. The mountains were covered with green trees, barely any ice in the water and since it is salmon season we saw a lot of "flying" salmon in the water.

The highlight of my dad's visit here was a glacier hike on the Matanuska glacier. The Matanuska Valley is about 1.5hrs northeast of Anchorage and just the drive up there was already amazing. The hike itself - just stunning and of course it never looks as nice on the pictures as it realy was.

Yip, it was so war that day that people were actually swimming in the glacier lakes.

Can you see the person walking on the ice? Yeah - that's how ginormous tha glacier was.
