So Monday morning was finally there and we left for the airport where our flight was supposed to depart at 10.25am….of course it got delayed but only half an hour which was ok but reason enough to become even more nervous. We were already 8 girls that flew together from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt and most of them I already knew from the Au Pair website. It was a pretty short flight from about 40 minutes until we arrived in Frankfurt.

We met about 70 other Au Pairs from all over the world and we were all supposed to be on the same flight *fun*. Since our first fight was delayed we only had half an hour to chat with all the girls and then boarding for NEWARK started :-)
After everyone changed seats for about ten times everyone was sitting where they wanted to sit and all 70 Pairs together in the back of the plane. We had a lot of fun and the time went by so fast. Of course we were all so excited that instead of sleeping we were just talking the whole time, exchanging information etc. The landing was horrible but we survived and were finally in NJ :) Luckily everything went pretty quick, security control, waiting for our luggage (which was checked by drug-sniffing dogs lol) and when we left the airport the American summer was waiting for us :) It was soooo hot outside and the shuttle that brought us to our hotel obviously didn’t have AC – nice. But it didn’t matter because WE WERE FINALLY IN AMERICA!!!
When we arrived at the hotel a really crazy American lady welcomed us and gave us every kind of information about the orientation and the schedule for the next days.

Afterwards we went straight to our rooms ( I was in a room with Ann-Christin and Lea :-) ) and the rest of the day we used to recover from our trip. We ordered pizza for dinner and then walked through the hotel to see what else was going on there. We found a wellness area with a whirlpool from which you could see the skyline of NYC – how awesome is that??!?! Of course we all got our bathing suit and went there right away.
Pizza for dinner and whirlpool with NYC skyline – guess there is no better way to start the “American Way of Life” :-)
Later on we found Starbucks next to the hotel lobby and tadaa – AuPairs got 10% off :) I already love it here!!! After a delicious mocha Frappuccino we all went to bed, totally exhausted.
